Brookings Municipal Utilities is currently taking applications for our 1,000 Hour Electrical Apprentice positions.  

Individuals in this role will work full-time hours up to 1,000 hours (approximately 6 months, beginning in May).  This provides an opportunity for individuals to work side-by-side with experience journeyman and gain experience in the electrical field.

Hourly Wage:  $15.73/hour

Summary of Duties:
Assist with the construction, maintenance and repair of transmission and distribution power lines, distribution equipment and substations while working directly under the supervision of the Electrical Foreman.

Assists with the following duties:
Constructs, maintains and repairs transmission and distribution power lines and substations and other electrical facilities and equipment.  Constructs and maintains traffic signal lights and street lights.  Installs electrical cable, transformers, insulators, switches, conduit, breakers and other electrical equipment.  Strings and pulls cable through ducts, splices cable according to specifications.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:
Prefer considerable knowledge of electrical theory, electrical systems, and equipment and mechanical aptitude. Excellent hand/eye coordination.  Ability to operate power equipment and to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.  Must possess a valid driver's license and have or obtain a South Dakota CDL with air brakes license within 60 days of hire.

Training and Experience:
An acceptable combination of training in the functions of electrical power lines, electrical systems and the operation of equipment used in repairing or building electric power lines and electrical systems.

Completion of a Powerline educational program preferred.
