Brookings Municipal Utilities is looking for a Part-time Laborer to assist with routine maintenance and custodial work. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs custodial work primarily within BMU shop area.
  • Assists with yard maintenance.
  • Assists with snow removal.
  • Assists with routine maintenance duties when needed.
Work Hours
  • As a part-time employee, you can expect to work on average 20 hours per week.
  • Work hours are flexible but prefer early morning availability.
Wage Information
  • Wage range is $11.65-$15.53/hour

Minimum Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  2. General knowledge of equipment.
  3. Employee must possess mechanical aptitude.
  4. An acceptable combination of training or experience in operating equipment.

Language Skills

  1. Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  2. Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.

Certification, Testing and Examination

  1. Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  2. Other such testing as deemed necessary by Brookings Municipal Utilities / Swiftel.

  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
  5. Employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, and push/pull up to 70lbs.

  1. While performing the duties of this position, the employee primarily works in an indoor environment.
  2. Normal indoor conditions of heat, humidity, and dust.

  4. Position involves regular contact with other employees.
  5. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal with occasional exposure to loud noise levels.
