Summary of Duties: Represent Brookings Municipal Utilities as a professional Construction Crew Leader. Coordinate the activities of electric and telephone construction crews as assigned by the Electrical Foreman. Construct, maintain and repair transmission, distribution power / telephone lines, electric distribution / telephone equipment and electrical substations. Maintain consistent safety practices and procedures for all assigned crews. Support the mission statement of Brookings Municipal Utilities.

 

Supervision: Report to the Electrical Foreman, Construction

 

Examples of Duties:

  1. Coordinate the activity of assigned construction personnel in the day to day operation of electrical and telephone construction, maintenance of power and telephone lines, electrical substations and other duties

  2. Maintain advanced knowledge of on the job safety procedures and training in both electric and telephone construction techniques. Assist personnel in projects that deal with energized electrical equipment or the placing of technical telephone apparatus and cable

  3. Answer trouble calls, analyze problems situations and determine a corrective plan of action for resolution. Coach personnel in this assessment process and the effective resolution of problems

  4. Interpret specifications, blueprints and job orders for personnel and give appropriate direction for work process and completion

  5. Operate telephone and electrical equipment used in utility construction projects

  6. Pull and string electric and telephone cable through ducts according to design specifications and industry standards

  7. Record and maintain records for equipment used in job completion

  8. Initiate personnel activities such as hiring, training, coaching, promotion and termination of staff

  9. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicle

  10. Required to perform periodic stand-by duties as assigned

  11. Perform other duties as assigned

     

    Desirable Minimum Qualifications:

     

     

    Training and Experience: Graduation from a technical institute with education in electrical, electronics or the equivalent thereof or an acceptable combination of high school education and experience in the functions of electrical and telephone lines and systems, the operation of equipment used in the building and/or repairing of electric / telephone lines and systems and experience as an electrical journeyman lineman. Training and experience in current safety procedures and equipment required. 
    Knowledge , Skills, Abilities: Possess advanced knowledge of electrical theory and mechanical application, safety practices and electric and telephone equipment and systems. Ability to attend and desire to obtain company provided continuing educational opportunities. Ability to supervise and direct personnel, plan and organize work, review and analyze records and to solve problem situations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Possession of a valid drivers license and have or obtain a South Dakota commercial drivers license with air brakes endorsement within 60 days of hire.
